As soon as the anesthetic begins to wear off, you should begin taking pain medications, either over-the-counter or prescribed by your doctor. For moderate pain, 1 or 2 over-the-counter (Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, etc.) can be taken every 3 to 4 hours. For more extreme pain, your doctor will prescribe you stronger pain pills.
